About Me
Hi there, I’m Maya, and this is me writing the About Me section of my website! I’ve spent years dreaming about being a tour guide and running food tours while I was working in the public and private sectors. I cut my teeth in corporate tourism, event planning, business development, and departmental operations. I have followed a very long and winding road to the launch of Delicious Discoveries, but I am so glad to be here!
My goal when I invite you on a Delicious Discoveries experience is to give you more than a simple food tour or walking tour and truly help you discover what Toronto’s small, local neighbourhoods have to offer. I like to focus on lesser-known parts of town, off the beaten path, to give you a better idea about the city I live in, its history, its present, its people, and its food.
While I cannot pick just one favourite food, I will say my favourite cuisines are Middle Eastern and Mexican. Anything that involves layers of flavourful spices, fresh produce, and vibrant colours really gets my tastebuds going.
A few of my most memorable meals have been at:
La Cabrera in Buenos Aires – steak so tender you could cut it with a spoon.
Kingyo’s Fisherman’s Market in Toronto – one of Toronto’s hidden gems. Fresh fish and Japanese market.
Falafel HaKosem in Tel Aviv – The best, hands down. In a sea of good falafel, this place is great with wonderful salads, fresh pitas, and friendly staff.
Momo Ghar in Toronto – Handmade momos (Tibetan, Nepalese, or North Indian dumpling) with a variety of fillings and sauces. Authentic flavours that leave you wanting more. You’ll find yourself saying, “I could squeeze in one more momo!”
I love to travel and have been fortunate to do a lot of it in various capacities. I’m always looking for my next adventure. Stay tuned, as I will be sharing my “Where I’ve Been” page soon.
